Television and postmodernity-
individual case study
You are responsible
for choosing a television programme to deconstruct as a postmodern text. Please complete all of
the tasks below.
Please complete the following tasks:
1.
Choose a case study – the more recent
the better, the more postmodern the better.
2.
In a short statement explain the
relationship between television and postmodernity. Why can so many shows be
described as postmodern? What is your opinion on PM and TV? Does PM constitute a genre? Is it going to
remain popular?
3.
Collect institutional information-
producers, station, viewership etc, news, reviews, articles, web site- find out as much as you can about the show.
4.
Audience – why do people seem to love
postmodern shows? Or do they? Who is the target audience for your show and what
pleasures do they get out of watching it?
5.
Define genre and typical conventions
of the show, characters, narrative arcs, set, camera work, mise en scene,
sound, dialogue, how does the show work?
6.
What makes the show postmodern
generally- famous postmodern moments?
7.
Choose a specific episode to focus on,
rip episode as AVI or similar (if possible) as we might be dropping them into
premiere.
8.
Deconstruct show as postmodern text.
Be sure to use theory/theorist and be sure to use specific examples – moments
in the show- as evidence.
Submit in essay format. 800-1000
words. This will be turned into a Book
